Following the Grand Reunions held
in 1993 and 1996, Edwin Cuss compiled two illustrated books on the
history of Cirencester Grammar School over the five centuries of
its existence.
From the sales of these books entitled, respectively, “The
History of Cirencester Grammar School” and “Looking
Back at Cirencester Grammar School” a fund was built up.
In order to perpetuate the name of Cirencester Grammar School, the income of the fund was devoted to gifts to schools in the former Grammar School catchment area from which the original pupils were drawn. The gifts were made on the basis that the schools would be free to spend the money as they wished.
The fund was administered by the Reunion Committee throughout its existence and finally wound up in 2009.
By 2009 sums in excess of £4,000 had been distributed. The largest donations were made to the County Junior and Infants schools who occupy the original grammar school premises in Victoria Road. This recognizes the help given on the occasions of the Grand Reunions when the head teachers open the premises on the Sunday morning allowing upwards of 120 former pupils to wander at will throughout the building.
